Muhanga district

Muhanga District is listed among the eight districts that compose the southern province of the country. This part is made up of high and lower peaks, constituting the one of the best elements of the central plateau of the country. The other part of the district is on the high mountains of the Nile Congo trail with peaks prancing beyond 2000 meters. Among the renowned picks include Budaha-Ndiza and Buberuka. The economy of Muhanga is based on agricultural activities with many varieties of products like coffee, rice, cassava, vegetables and cereals. The Muhanga market is loved for its unique and fresh fruits.

The district lies in the geographical centre of Rwanda and contains three major radial roads leading to Kigali and the eastern part of the country; To Butare City enroute to the Republic of Burundi in the south leading to Nyungwe rainforest to its western part and to Kibuye on the shores of Lake Kivu to the west and also leading to Nyungwe rain Forest in its western part continuing to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bukavu city. A forth road leads to the north to Gisenyi, also on the shores of lake Kivu and to Musanze District, the foothills of the Virunga mountains that host the Volcanoes National park known for the famous activity of Gorilla trekking that is considered as a once lifetime experience . Muhanga District has good hotels that offer relaxation and accommodation to passengers going or coming from all corners as listed above. Tourists also coming from or to Nyungwe rain forest National park can testify to a variety of arts and craft activities in the city of Muhanga, community activities that offer a glimpse on the living conditions and cultural activities among others. Like beehive making, Rwanda local food cooking classes and others that are offered by Azizi live in Muhanga town.
